Business collective action (BCA)—the collaboration of private sector organizations and/or industries to achieve common objectives—is a widely prevalent yet largely understudied phenomenon. This oversight is lamentable since the organizational forms through which BCA occurs and the scope of activities it entails has the potential to challenge and enhance our existing theories of organizations. The objective of this professional development workshop is to shine a spotlight on the topic with the hope of generating discussion and debate, and stimulating further research in the area. We bring together a distinguished group of scholars conducting research in the area to share their expertise with the audience, and create vibrant discussions. The workshop consists of three components: (1) presentations on different topics in BCA (trade and professional associations, corporate front groups and issue-based collectives, BCA and market creation, corporate collective activism, and BCA and NGOs); (2) paper development roundtables facilitated by an expert discussant; (3) a keynote address by Mark Mizruchi. The PDW also includes numerous opportunities for the audience to engage with the participants through formal question and answer periods and roundtable discussions.
