Social network analysis is a field of study that focuses on social relations among a set of actors—e.g., individuals, teams, organizations— rather than the attributes of the actors. Network researchers have developed a set of distinctive theoretical perspectives and methodological techniques for data collection, statistical analysis, and visual representation. This PDW’s goals are to: • Introduce members of the Academy of Management to social network theory and analysis • Discuss both micro and macro management research based in social network theory • Introduce participants to UCINET and other social network analysis tools • Guide participants on how to learn more about social network analysis
