Research on aspirations and performance feedback is a vibrant area of organizational studies, with great influence over strategy, organization theory, and decision making. Despite the growing impact of this body of work, scholars have begun to recognize the need for a deeper understanding of the processes that underlie how aspirations are set and used by organizational decision-makers. In this professional development workshop (PDW), we aim to call attention to current work that draws on new methods and approaches to advance the aspirations research agenda. Guided by prominent scholars in the field, this PDW will also foster the joint identification of promising research avenues as well as help integrate recent conceptual and methodological developments into these novel research directions. The PDW will accomplish these goals through a combination of state-of-the-art research presentations, senior scholars’ discussion, and participants’ development of a novel research proposal. This proposal development activity will be guided by presenters, discussants, and organizers. The ultimate goal of this PDW is to advance the Carnegie School – the theoretical tradition on which much of the work on aspirations draws from – and strengthen the behavioral strategy community within the Academy of Management.
Participants will be required to register two weeks before the meeting and at that point have the opportunity to submit a research outline (max. 2 pages describing a novel research proposal) that relates to the topic of this PDW (to be discussed in subgroups during the PDW).

Pre-registration is required for this workshop. To register online, please visit https://secure.aom.org/PDWReg. Please contact the workshop organizer at glucas@sfu.ca to obtain the approval code. The deadline to register online is July 22, 2016.
