The objective of this Professional Development Workshop (PDW) is to support Doctoral and Early Career scholars interested in advancing their research capabilities and projects in the field of Strategizing Activities and Practice (SAP). A consciously chosen mix of experienced and emerging scholars who successfully pushed the boundaries of SAP research in top-tier journals will provide helpful advice and insights on the craft of planning, conducting and publishing high quality research in this field of strategic management. By concentrating on Doctoral and Early Career scholars, the PDW actively tries to foster the development of prospective high- quality SAP research publications and to ensure the continuation of the vibrant SAP community within the Academy of Management. Our PDW consists of two parts that are characterized by intense interactions between junior and senior scholars. In Part 1, three scholars who have recently published SAP research in top-tier management journals – Sotirios Paroutis, Eric Knight, and Matthias Wenzel – will share their experiences and lessons learned on writing successful SAP research. These presentations will be followed by a brief question and answer time and then breakouts where two-three participants will each meet with roundtable facilitators. In Part 2, three scholars – Loizos Heracleous, Paul Spee, and Rajiv Nag and one practitioner Steven González from NASA – will engage in a panel discussion revolving around the topic of managing one's research and one's scholarly identity. These presentations will also be followed by a brief question and answer time and then breakouts where two participants will meet with roundtable facilitators. Since the breakout sessions are most productive, if the participants and facilitators prepare for them in advance, this PDW requires pre-registration. This PDW is part of Strategizing activities and practices Doctoral and Early Career Program.
Pre-registration is required for this session. To register online, please visit https://secure.aom.org/PDWReg. Please contact the workshop organizer christina.wawarta.15@mail.wbs.ac.uk or vglaser@ualberta.ca to obtain the approval code. The deadline to register online is August 9, 2018.
