Alliance portfolios (APs) continue to be a subject of evolving research interest in the field of alliances and networks. Literature on APs covers such questions as APs emergence, evolution, its impact on firm performance, as well as how firms nurture capabilities for coordinating and organizing their multiple alliances. The proposed PDW intends to extend scholars’ perspective to include research questions that go beyond firm- level ego networks considerations to include individual- and firm- level outcomes. Unlike past PDWs on this topic that aimed at generating a fruitful discussion of some critical issues in research on APs, the current PDW stands out in two important ways. First, it will provide a platform for junior scholars (rising stars) conducting cutting-edge research on APs to share their perspective on the most interesting current questions in AP research. The rising stars will also present their latest research on the topic. Second, the current PDW will directly promote research on the topic of APs by offering feedback on work-in- progress of other scholars to help them get their work published. Senior scholars (shining stars) will serve as paper discussants drawing from their research expertise and stellar publication record on APs. This PDW will consist of three parts – panel presentations by junior scholars followed by paper discussions led by the senior scholars in round table setting, and a wide-forum discussion of important issues identified by the small groups will conclude the PDW. Participants will be encouraged to pre-register by submitting a short summary of their research projects.
Pre-registration is encouraged for this session, but interested scholars are welcome to drop in the day of the workshop. To register online, please visit https://business.wvu.edu/majors/management/aom-2018- alliance-portfolio-pdw. The deadline to register online is August 3, 2018.
