We design this workshop to welcome new members of the Academy of Management. We will provide new members with a wide range of useful advice that will make their experience and membership at the Academy of Management meeting profitable, productive and meaningful. The purpose of the proposed workshop is fivefold: (1) introduce new members to the Academy of Management, (2) welcome them to the Management History Division, (3) discuss volunteerism at AoM, and the meaning of volunteerism across cultures, (4) present volunteering opportunities at AoM, and (5) provide information about professional service that supports professional and career development, and the global academic community. For instance, we will discuss the role of the discussant, the role of the reviewer and other opportunities for volunteer positions. We will highlight the importance of building national and international research collaborations. The role of the Academy of Management as an inclusive organization that welcomes scholars from various ideological and economic backgrounds and supports the development of research among emerging scholars from developing countries will be emphasized as we offer insights on how to develop international networks of scholars through sustained productive dialogues and volunteering endeavors.
Professional and career development, volunteerism, and the AoM meeting.
