The discussion on the emerging postgrowth economy encapsulates an attempt to revitalize the awareness of the social, economic and ecological limitations humanity faces as a 'world civilization' and the consequences for all our livelihoods and wellbeing by shaping a new 'story' or description of what matters and how humanity and their co-beings might thrive in a future different from the present. During past Academy of Management Meetings, we have explored issues raised by the scholarly discourse on several postgrowth concepts, most notably the discourse about degrowth. In Anaheim, we propose to address certain postgrowth ideas and concepts that enable the present discourse to re-imagine and re- organize economic action towards a world in which the relentless pursuit of economic growth will both no longer be possible and no longer be necessary. In this symposium, special emphasis is laid on the applicability of these concepts in a managerial and organizational environment as the current discourse on postgrowth has a severe blind spot in this area.
